World Environment Day 2018

June 5 is designated as World Environment Day (WED). In the UN system and across the globe, the day marks activities to sensitize and create awareness about the environment. The theme of this year - Beat Plastic Pollution - is very sensitive to our environment as we face the lingering crises of plastic pollution.

Yaba College of Technology UNEVOC Centre organized a series of activities to commemorate the day through creating awareness and sensitizing the College community and general public about the menace of plastic pollution. Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe, Rector, Yaba College of Technology, presented a special World Environment Day 2018 speech. The Rector in his speech noted that reducing, recycling, reusing and redesigning products that use plastics can bring multiple economic benefits namely: reducing economic damage to marine ecosystems; tourism and fisheries industries. Through the College UNEVOC Centre a Trade Your Plastic challenge was organized for practice of plastic reuse, reduction and recycling. He also challenge the College members to take the 4R pledge everyday i.e. Reuse, Reduce, Recycle and Refuse plastic while stressing the slogan - If you can’t reuse it, refuse it.
