June 5 is World Environment Day. The theme for the year 2018 edition is “Beat Plastic Pollution”. YabaTech UNEVOC Centre joined the rest of the world to commemorate the World Environment Day to create awareness and encourage the College and its community to improve on environmental issues especially on the menace of plastic pollution. It is for sustainable development and support for the vision of the College on green campus with mindset of Greening TVET.
World Environment Day (WED) is a day set aside by the United Nation, the General Assembly expressed concerns on the higher rate of challenges faced in the environment. It is noted that advocacy, skills development and creating awareness will contribute to reduction in waste management and established the fact findings that reducing, recycling and redesigning products could be used for economic growth. The United Nation General Assembly in it passion for environment declared June 5 as World Environment Day, a day for key stakeholders in the environment sector to call for intensive public involvement in management of our ecosystems, social, cultural dimension and political economic dimension.
YabaTech UNEVOC Centre awareness campaign and advocacy on how to beat plastic pollution highlighted ways that plastic pollution can be control, alternative ways of disposing plastic materials and ways on how to convert waste to wealth. The Centre also organized Trade Your Plastic challenge for practice of plastic reuse, reduction and recycling.
